Name: Adei Kahi-Eien Nashota
Nickname(s)/Alias(es): Ade, Dei, Dad, Pop, Father, The Peaceful One, Heron Monk, The Mystic Heron - The only name he will not respond to no matter how much you repeat or it scream it at him is Dei. He does not like that name. The Peaceful One was something passed onto him during his travels...Given from the bards he once traveled with. A name that just sort of stuck with him. Heron Monk - he does not like this name very well. He was raised with monks, this is true. However he don't like being called what he is not. And then The Mystic Heron was passed to him shortly after he joined up with Toji. It was given to him due to his constant words of wisdom. He don't speak often, but when he does, it's usually something of wisdom or words of pure kindness. And only his son can get away with calling him Dad, Pop and Father.
Gender: Male
Age: 46
Birthdate: March 15th, 1964 (Going by modern)
Birthplace: Hokkaido Japan
Race: Great Blue Heron Anthro
Nationality: Japanese
Languages Spoken: Japanese, Chinese, English
Current Residence: Japan - He's staying at the Rebel base.
Eye Color: Gold
Hair Color: None - Unless you count the blue mowhawk on his head. It rises to stand spiked when angry or frightened. Also raises slightly when spooked, alert or worried.
Height: 5'3
Weight: 50 - Due to what he is, he's not that heavy. He's not weightless either though. But he's light weight due to the fact that his bones are hollow instead of dense..Just like any other bird's. And yes, he does fly.
Distinguishing Markings(Tattoos, Piercings, etc): Just being what he is, is enough to set him apart from others. But he is marked like any other heron. A light brownish gold around the back of his neck, his head, front of the neck, chest, belly and inner wings are a brilliant white. Around his eyes and just above his golden colored beak are a dark blue as is the mowhawk on his head. Back to the brownish gold on his neck, it fades down onto his back into that dark blue which turns to a grayish blue across his back and onto his wings. His tail feathers are a mix of these colors. His hands resemble bird feet and do have very sharp claws on each of the fingers. The hands are black as are his legs and feet. However most of his body is not seen. He usually dresses in samurai like clothing. Usually of white and purple. A white top and purple bottoms. The white top is in mourning of each life lost during the war rather they are good or bad. Over this, he often wears an open purple kimono. Around the neck and sleeves is black silk. The rest is various shades of purple. On the back of it is a white lotus symbol done in a bright purple. On the sleeves of this are plants and fish.
Morality: Good - He does not like to hurt anyone. He's a very peaceful man that would not so much as raise a claw to anyone unless he feels there is an actual reason to do so. He is also very obedient. When told to do something by his best friend and leader, he listens. He may not always agree, but he still listens and obeys orders. He also does not like to see random acts of violence...(ie - Someone pushing someone down a flight of stairs just cause that can.). He also strongly dislikes cruel people. The current Emperor he actually has a problem with due to how cruel the man is. Though all things aside, Adei is a kind hearted man with a heart of gold.
Disability: His selflessness. He'd stick his neck out for anyone if they needed help. Before he knew about the rebels, he lost everything he held dear to him by helping a solider allied with those responsible for taking out the village of the riflemen. He didn't know it at the time...He was only helping an injured solider. In the end, he lost everything from helping the man. Also, he has a big weakness for kids. He adores children and would risk his own life to save them. Something he has done more than once. He's also a sucker for tea. Especially cinnamon tea turning the colder seasons. Though his favorite is sweet honey tea. And another thing he's a major sucker for is a good swim. He loves the water. If it wasn't for the war, he'd probably spend a great deal of his time in the water. Which is probably why his favorite spot at base is beside the lake's shore under a large cherry blossom tree. Also if not seen from what he wears, his favorite color is purple.
Allergies: Coconuts - They'll cause his air ways to swell closed. And if he don't get help right away, it could kill him.
Blood Type: A +
Sexuality: Straight - He has never lain with nor been with a woman before. He's had his fair share of crushes, but he's never really acted on them. A lot of it having to do with his upbringing..the majority of it resting soley upon the war and for awhile, his nomadic life style. Though now it's just the war. He is afraid to actually be with anyone for fear that he may not be able to go home later in life to the person that he falls in love with.
Love Interest: None Yet
Family: Adopted Son - Telling him that his son isn't his son will serve to upset him and may actually get him to be mouthy. Perhaps the only real way to bring an actual reaction out of him. Hurt or badmouth his son and he tends to lose his temper on the person responsible.
Class(es)/Occupation(s): Ex Orphanage Man - He ran an orphanage right up till it was all taken from him. Military man. - He is currently serving his country loyally, serving under the rebels in hopes of one day helping Toji restore peace to Japan.
Abilities: Beginning with natural abilities, he's an excellent leaper. Being able to leap semi medium distances. He can also fly. He is also very noble and wise. He may not be of noble blood, but that does not stop him from having the mind of a sage like wise man. Into weapons, he is excellent in using what he naturally has..that being his strong beak. Which can inflict some rather nasty injuries right down to his very sharp claws. Though he is a peaceful man and would rather not harm anyone unless he has no other choice. He also has a sword in which he is not afraid to use. Of course that goes without saying that, that is only used when he is training. As an extension of himself. However if a fight breaks out where he must use it, he will and he will not hesitate from delivering a nasty wound to the one he's fighting if things get too tense between him and the one he's fight. However if he is training with another, he will not use weapons. And he will actually wear special gloves over his claws to keep from hurting the one he's practicing with. He's also very skilled in martial arts. And can sometimes be found in the water of the lake training alone in martial arts..Using the water as resistance against his own body for strengthening his legs.
Weapons: Hands, Feet, Claws, Beak, Sword
Other Important Items/Equipment: His kimono like robe. The thing is usually worn open to reveal the samurai outfit he wears under it and the sword that hangs at his left hip. However this is important for the back of it holds a very special symbol... the symbol for The Order Of The White Lotus.
Biography:
March 15th, 1964 - Just inside of Hokkaido Japan, a single egg would hatch just after night fall. The small nursery room would fill with the gentle cries of a baby boy. His mother would be right there the whole time..watching as the egg stirred and then hatched to reveal the naked, pink little baby bird anthro. Sealed eyes would prevent him from seeing his mother, but that didn't matter. Her familiar voice would be all that was needed to calm him. His mother picked him up, and he'd be asleep in a matter of minutes. His father stood off to the side watching. Only when the child was asleep, would he approach and offer the name Adei. His mother loved it.. As such, that would be the name he was given.. Adei Kahi-Eien Nashota.
Growing up, Adei was an only child. And as it goes with anyone raised as an only child, he became quite spoiled. His mother and father lavished the child with anything his little heart desired. Or at least tried to. When they couldn't, then they'd make it up to him by taking him out swimming or getting him something later. He didn't really turn into a brat though.. He only ever threw a childish tantrum once. And that was when his father left to take care of some business with an assassin guild. He wanted to go, he was five at the time. His father flat out refused to take him and he threw a fit. His mother corrected him though and never threw a fit again after that.
Things seemed wonderful for him. His parents loved and adored their little boy. Of course they tried giving him a sibling. But they just never really had the time to take care of him, plus watch over an egg while they both worked the lives of assassins. They planned on passing this life style down to Adei when he became of age. But life has a way of throwing a kink in plans. At the age of eight, Adei's parents were murdered by the very guild they worked for. They were killed because they had been unable to complete a job due to the target getting away. This left Adei an orphan. From here till he was nine, he roamed the streets and forest by himself. He was nothing by a scrawny boy when he accidentally stumbled upon a Sohei Temple. Monks found him in the morning and they took him in.
The monks were shocked though to learn just how angry Adei was. The small anthro boy blamed the world for the deaths of his parents. Blamed anyone that called themselves 'friends' as being part of it...Just speaking out of hate. The monks would end up working with him and getting him back on a straight path. And he only ever lost his temper once with the monks. He was made to pray for what he did under a statue. After that, he was later taught how to control and how to channel his anger into a positive force rather than a negative one. Something that wouldn't take him long to figure out.
With this, he began training with the monks. They taught him a great deal. From sword play to meditation. The sword play however was just that..play. It was a source of meditation and a way to relieve stress and anger. By training with the sword, he was releasing anger by swiping at the air as if cutting an enemy down. He was forbidden to ever use the sword for violent acts upon an actual person unless he had no other choice. To use it only to protect himself and those who needed to be protected. Over time, Adei would become a very peaceful person. Harmless even unless pushed to fight and threatened. He came to know discipline very early on and how to follow orders.
At the age of twenty seven, Adei would become a father..in a way. He had found an orphaned baby boy. The child was nearly frozen to death.. While he was furious with the parents of the child for leaving their baby in such conditions, Adei was also quite worried for the child. He removed his cloak, wrapping the child in it before taking the bundle into the see The Grand Master. He was told of everything the child would need to survive.. It was quite different than from what he had needed when he was small...But when he was given the child and told he found him, he'd have the honor of bathing him.. At first, Adei was a little worried of harming the child. But he'd do it and surprisingly, he didn't even leave a scratch on the kid while bathing him. Later the baby was taken to the clinic and Adei would call him Jou Ren.
Over the next couple months, rolling into a year, Adei would find himself quite attached to the child. He'd request to be allowed to adopt the boy by the Grand Master. When he was allowed, Adei would let it be known that he was attached to the child. As such, the bird would dedicate his life to raising him.
Through out his time spent with the monks, he'd learn swordplay, meditation, martial arts and become such a peaceful person that he'd eventually pick up on the wisdom of the monks as well. He came to the monks at nine years old.. a broken boy with a broken heart.. Angry with the world and those around him. Though he'd leave at the age of twenty nine, a man of knowledge and wisdom. A man that was calm and peaceful rather than violent and hateful. By the time he left, he had truly adopted everything that the monks were known for. The peace, the calmness.. Some would later in life most likely find it nerve wracking...especially when he was insulted and he merely shrugged and would respond with a random comment that would usually leave his enemy baffled.
And when he left, he took his son with him. Returning off and on as the boy got older. Especially when it came time to train the child.
During his travels after he left the monks, he'd become involved with The White Lotus group. He had watched what they were about... Seen how peaceful they were. Though he didn't ask to join..He would meet up with one of the members during his travels. They became friends and his new friend adopted Adei as an oath brother before adopting the bird into the order. Adei merely agreed to be part of it because his oath brother was part of it. At the age of thirty, tragedy would take his oath brother from him.. His brother had died of a heart attack. After his brother died, Adei took to wearing a white shirt instead of a purple one. Before, he would dress in all purple. But after he lost his brother, he opted to wear a white shirt. So it was a white shirt and purple pants under his lotus marked open kimono. Something that would remain as he would go through life.
It was during this time that he'd travel to Osaka. He was there a week..perhaps less. Orphaned children playing in the street caught his attention. He'd feel sorry.. The poor kids... They had no-one except each other to depend on for survival. And Adei knew what it was like to be there. So he'd open a homeless children shelter that catered to all children of every race. And naturally he'd hire others to help out as he couldn't do it all alone once the shelter began to grow in the number of children that resided there.
During the time he ran the shelter, he would also begin helping those in the surrounding area that needed help. Adult or children, he'd help. This would become his own downfall later though. As time had gone by, he had taken in an injured soldier that worked for the cruel emperor. He thought he was helping. Which he was.. But what he failed to see was what the solider would do to him later. The soldier had been abandoned after a battle...left to die. Adei took him in and nursed him back to health.
The soldier, impressed by Adei's knowledge of caring for the wounded, demanded Adei to abandon the children and to come work for the army. When Adei simply refused, saying he couldn't turn his back on the children, and that the children needed him, the soldier became angry with him. Yet the anger was never shown and Adei, being as busy as he was never picked up on it. Once that soldier was able to return and leave Adei's care, the soldier went back to the emperor and his own group. He told his people that Adei had been the one to injure him and then hold him hostage. He had escaped though and was now begging for help against the bird. His group believed him and went after Adei.
The information the soldier gave to his group had caused an attack on the bird and the shelter. Adei was pinned down, tortured while he was forced to watch all the children he had taken in burn alive as the shelter was set ablaze. Any children that escaped were killed on sight. This left a very broken Adei in return. He was raised to be peaceful...That night, Adei snapped. Once he was able to stand and the soldiers that forced him to watch the children die let go of him, he'd viciously attack the soldiers. The end result was four soldiers dead, three escaped with severe injuries. After that, Adei returned to the monks in Hokkaido.. Heart broken and feeling like it was his fault for what had happened to those innocent children.. And even worse for taking the lives of the four men. He'd stay with the monks for five years.
During the attack, Adei had done what he could to hide his son. Thankfully he did a good job...his son would be one of the few surviving children. He had been lucky...Adei knew that.. Because of it, he had returned to the monks. The monks thankfully would talk sense into him.
At the age of thirty five, Adei would leave and travel to China. He roamed for a bit by himself...just him and his son.. Than he turned and started to roam with a group of bards. He became their voice of reason..Usually talking the men out of acts of violence when something didn't go their way. He was only looking out for them. Though the bards didn't think so. In fact, they'd leave him in the middle of the night..They left him and his son in a field sleeping. When he woke up to find everyone gone with no note, he'd accept it as having run them off.. Even though he hadn't meant to. For the longest time after that, he traveled alone once more with just his son at his side. Then he found himself back in Japan.
Upon his arrival, he was disappointed to see the sorry state Japan had fallen into. His homeland wasn't what he remembered it to be. He traveled awhile around Japan..alone. He did what he could to help others.. Tried to cheer people up. When all seemed to be failing, he'd finally set out to seek out the rebel army camp. He had heard only whisperings about it. Of course once he found it, he was surprised to find Toji leading.. A man he had met back when he first joined The White Lotus order ( hope that's alright, if not, let me know. ). He'd request to be allowed to join. When he was accepted, he was quite happy and took quickly to the group, vowing his loyalty to his friend and his now leader.
He was there when Jiro came back and didn't want to fight. He talked sense into the man. Got him back to the fighting for peace. And he was there the night Toji's daughter died. That night, Adei almost let his mind go back to that dark place it had gone to the night he killed the four soldiers. Adei was going to kill the captain that had been responsible for Matty's death. Toji stopped him..saved him from returning to the dark place. Adei became even more thankful to Toji that night.. Though apologized up and down for acting brashly during a time of great mourning.
Of course, Toji and his son had been the ones to keep him from slipping again back into the darkness.
Since then, Adei is still loyally at Toji's side. As not only the man's best friend, but as a soldier. The bird refuses to leave his side. And has also since his joining the group, became a peaceful voice of wisdom among the other soldiers of Toji's group. Often having almost sage like advice.
Though despite being a peaceful man, he does fight. But only when he knows it's for the greater good. The only one he really listens to though...especially in times of great threat like the day Matty died, is Toji. Toji and Jou being the only ones that can keep the bird from the darker places.
Although he will still lash out. If told to stop, he will stop. However, those foolish enough to touch him after he was told to stop and he stops fighting (like the enemy) the enemy is facing usually severe wounds for touching him after he backs off. While he is good at keep his composure and that always calm, gentle appearance, if angry and he's fighting, then asked to stop by Toji, he will listen. But if the person he was fighting touches him after he was asked to stop, he will turn and lash out on the person that touched him. Usually giving the person that went for him again a good several deep wounds from his claws and beak. But after all is said and done, especially if he was told to stop, he'll immediately begin asking for forgiveness from Toji for going against orders.
